Basket House Village Universe is an artist run space that provides an exhibition platform for emerging contemporary art in all disciplines.

Inspired by the vernacular architecture of the Dogon people of Mali , the term Basket- House-Village-Universe was coined by Dutch architect Aldo van Eyck to describe the way in which the Dogon charge every material object from the smallest to the largest with extra meaning in line with the totality of creation.

Hidden in an enclave of creative energy in the back streets of Stoke Newington, the gallery space has been renovated using as many found, donated, recycled materials as possible, this has been facilitated by the support and hard graft of many friends.

At the core is the belief that art shouldn't depend on money to make , show or inspire. This is a form of gallery but not a means to an end sort of gallery.
